Baseball Review: Spring Training

I loved it. Sunshine, blue skies, palm trees, relaxed atmosphere, not being in Minnesota in March, everything. My nieces were able to get their picture taken with Michael Cuddyer (they tried for autographs, but the marker didn't work), and autographs from Matt Tolbert, who was kind enough to pull over on his way out of the parking lot (the next day - when they had a working marker).
I think another part of what made it so enjoyable was that since these games don't matter as far as the regular season goes, the fans weren't as competitive. Yes, we were cheering for our teams, but, as cheesy as this sounds, we were all there because we love baseball. I also really liked that at the second game we went to, when the person who was supposed to sing the national anthem had to cancel because of laryngitis, they had everyone sing it instead. Again with the cheesiness, but it just felt so American.
We had a lot of fun (even with our Standing-Room-Only seats for the one game), so I highly recommend it.

there were paragraphs here, but they kind of vanished in the process of publishing apparently

I'm glad you had fun! :) (but would've liked to have been there -- not sick -- too;) of course, i would've protested not going to the HP theme park, or is it even opened yet??

i don't think it's open yet. and i don't think i'd want to go when it first opens. it'll be nuts.

I loved all those things, too, although I think there were some people who were there for the beer, not the game.
Case in point, the people who kept walking past us when Mauer or Kubel was up. They're only up two or three times during a spring training game. Sit down and watch them!
Cheers for the usher guy who finally made them wait until the play was over.

Oh, and my spring training injury is purple, but healing nicely.

what did you do, celeste?

Well, according to some accounts, I ran over my toe with a table. According to other sources, it's a baseball injury.

lucy said...

it's a baseball-related injury

Ouch. But I didn't realize there were tables around in baseball... (then again, I've never witnessed the spring training version:P)

The table was in the hotel room. But it was in Ft. Myers, so, like Lucy said, it's a baseball-related injury.
