"Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, 'Lord, save us! We're going to drown!'
"He replied, 'You of little faith, why are you so afraid?' Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm." - Mt. 8:23-26
The disciples were scared. Understandably so. They encountered a huge, unexpected storm. They didn't know what to do. The size of the storm was beyond even the fishermen. Finally, as the waves were crashing over the boat, they went to Jesus. He asked them about their little faith, but therein lies the key. They may have had little faith, but they had enough faith in Jesus to turn to Him at their time of need.
They had no need to be as scared as they were. They knew Jesus was with them. But they were human and fear set in. Jesus asked them about their little faith, but at the same time, He answered their cries. He didn't do a thing about the storm until they called on Him. Their faith demanded a response from Him. And He answered.

I love that all we have to do is look to Him - He takes care of the rest. Just knowing that HE IS is enough.
