a grammar issue that bothers me

i really don't like it when people say things like, "i'll get you a cup of coffee." i don't remember all the terms like direct object and whatnot, but basically, what is being said is, "i'll get you." that is not at all pleasant. what should be said in this case is, "i'll get a cup of coffee for you." whoever is saying this is saying that he or she will get a cup of coffee. that is correct.
now, sadly this is something of which i am guilty. sheer laziness. that's all it is. and so i renew my vow to try to eliminate grammatical errors such as this from my speech.

So all those times I've told somebody to "shoot me an email" I actually meant they should shoot me???

Or worse, "I'll make you a cup of coffee." I'd really prefer not to be transformed into coffee, thank you very much.

chelley - yes, and i'm glad no one has taken you seriously!

celeste - that wouldn't be my first choice of things to be turned into either

and yes, i realize that this is coming from the girl who said 'tea is healthier than pop' a few posts ago (instead of 'more healthful'), and wished that the youtube videos came in clearer (instead of 'more clearly'). but if i speak correctly all the time, people will look at me funny.

But Celeste, I'm not sure I agree with you that being turned into a cup of coffee would be worse than getting shot... I suppose it depends on if you could ever get turned back into a person. ;)

Thanks, Lucy! :) And I'll just say "no comment" to the end of your last comment there... ;)
