at work today, i glanced at the calendar and noticed that it's the first sunday of advent. i mentioned it to my coworkers and, naturally, got a blank stare. "ok, so what is that?"
"the four sundays before Christmas are advent, which is kind of a count down to Christmas and Jesus being born."
"ok."
"and it also is for looking forward to Jesus coming again. it's really kind of exciting."
and then i got a look like i'm completely off my rocker. which is fine. i didn't expect anything else. but it makes me sad. i wish these people would know what Christmas is all about. i can't imagine thinking it's just about presents. how empty.
i also wish that churches would do more with the whole "Jesus is coming again" part of advent. i don't know what exactly, but it would be nice to be reminded of that. imagine what could happen if we all started living like it. :)

We had an advent wreath at church this past week, and I thought it was kind of strange because we've never done that before.
I haven't thought too much about advent, I admit. Except my SIL said they just bought one with different candy each day, and that sounded appealing. But on Sunday the pastor did talk about "end times" and Jesus returning and looking forward to it and all that. It was good. :)
